July 24, 2018 | Severe Hail Storm in Lusk, Wyoming
On 7/24/2018 at approximately 5:08 PM, a hailstorm took place over Lusk, WY causing widespread damage from the 1.75″ hailstones. This damage contributed to property losses, including damage to roof coverings and vehicles.
The Niobrara County area was struck with half dollar sized hail in the early evening hours. By 6:30 PM CDT the sized of the hailstones upgraded to golf ball size. The hail was accompanied by severe weather from thunderstorms and heavy rain. The storms produced winds up to 60 mile per hour which drove the hail to severely impact residential dwellings, commercial buildings, and vehicles in the area. Other locations impacted include Prairie Center and Van Tassell.
Hail storms are uncommon in Lusk, Wyoming, where on a typical year there may be only 2 days of hail.
