On 6/5/2018 at approximately 12:30 AM, a severe hail storm took place over Denton and Collin County, Texas causing widespread damage from 1.75″ hailstones. Carrolton and Coppell police confirmed that this storm contributed to significant amount of property damage county-wide, including breaking windows, puncturing windshields, and damage to roof coverings. The Insurance Council of Texas stated that it anticipated as many as 20,000 home and 25,000 auto insurance claims to be filed.

The Dallas and surrounding areas were struck by penny to baseball sized hail in the early morning hours. The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning. Due to the amount of property damage as well as size and amount of hail, this storm was considered the worst hailstorm in North East Texas of 2018 so far.
