On 3/20/2018 at approximately 2:15 PM CST, a severe hail storm took place over Orange County, Florida causing widespread damage from half dollar to golf ball sized hailstones. Severe thunderstorm warnings with heavy rain and winds that could possibly spawn cyclones put Orlando and much of central Florida under a tornado watch until 7 PM.
The Orlando, Florida metro area was struck by hail approximately 1.25″ in diameter. The storms produced 73-77 mile per hour winds which drove the hail to severely impact residential dwellings and commercial buildings in the area. Hail storms are common in Orlando, Florida, where on a typical year there may be 5 days of hail.
